and fertilize the plants
Disposal instructions for Permaset inks suggest that waste water can be poured onto the garden - apparently the nutrients help fertilize the plants (although not every day). Obviously you have to strain out any solid waste first but what a lovely idea.
Currently our waste water goes down the drain but we're planning to work with the Environment Technology Centre in Nottingham to design and build our own water recycling unit.
We've been cleaning out our wash-out booth (a yearly job) and it did take some chemicals to break down the emulsion/ink residue. But a few chemicals once a year is much better than the harmful solvents used every day by screen printers that use plastisol inks. Much, much better. This photo shows the ink residue on the wire rack.
